Master Keyword Research
Keyword research is the bedrock of SEO. Without it, you are writing content that no one is searching for. Follow this blueprint to win:
- Define Search Intent: Google matches results to user needs. Identify if your topic is Informational, Navigational, Commercial, or Transactional, and align your content type accordingly.
- Target Long-Tail Keywords: These specific phrases (e.g., 'best waterproof trail running shoes') have lower competition and higher conversion rates than broad terms.
- Analyze the SERP: Check the top 10 results. If massive authority sites dominate, find a less competitive angle or address gaps in their content.
- Avoid Cannibalization: Assign only one primary keyword per page. Use a spreadsheet to track your targeting and status.
- Write for Humans: Use your keyword naturally in your Title, URL, and H1. Supplement with LSI (synonym) keywords to provide context.
Start with low-difficulty, high-volume keywords, track your rankings, and refine your strategy every few months. SEO is a marathon, not a sprint.
